A journey to Seestadt

2011

This is the tale of three people; Julian who wanted to explore the world by bicycle, Patrick who wanted to work as a bicycle mechanic in a mountain village in northern Italy, and Fernanda who simply wanted to bake cakes in Brazil. What connects these three people? Cycling.

We often wonder how three such different personalities ended up together in Seestadt. Most of it we don’t understand ourselves. But one thing is clear: We are dreamers, inspired by our passions. According to our professional backgrounds, as well as common sense, we should have become teachers.

The concept of United in Cycling is born

Julian and Patrick met during a cycling trip to Russia. Fernanda flew across the ocean and fell in love with Julian. Together, all of them fell in love with the idea of creating a place where they could follow their passions and inspire others. Maybe this vision was influenced by their training as educators.

This is how the concept of United in Cycling was born. The how, where and when was not so important in the beginning. After winning an idea competition, they were able to start their business in Seestadt. Now they had been thrown into the deep end and had to start to swim.

The bike shop with bike café opens for business in Seestadt Aspern

To be honest: We started without a clue of what we had gotten ourselves into

In the beginning we didn’t even know how to make an invoice and we were barely able to afford the products for sale. In the winter of 2015 we opened the shop for the first 2.000 pioneer residents of Seestadt, with our personal bikes in the display windows and a first-class La Marzocco espresso machine.

Today we look back and wonder: How is it possible that we are still here and even were able to expand our business? Life happens. Passion inspires and connects. We love our jobs and our team. We love the feeling of being on the right path, and dedicating our limited existence to children and the environment, whilst making our customers as happy as often as possible.
